Soumack, Friends and Family & a little of more!

  • Soumack-no matter how you spell it is a technique that can be used to create whole cloth or be mixed with tapestry to create lines that travel in any direction and any angle. Soumack can be used to outline, draw with, lock shapes into place, smooth edges or produce a unique surface. Traditionally, it was used throughout the Middle East to produce containers and household items. Mixed with tapestry it becomes an all purpose technique for creating lines, texture and problem solving. Soumack, Friends and family members can also be used on and across any weave structure and on any type of loom.
  • The sampler for this workshop should be 6 inches wide, 10epi, 12/6 or 12/9 cotton seine twine. the 12/6 is preferable but 12/9 will work. Feel free to weave a .5 inch header with the warp.
