The Tapestry Study Group will continue to meet on the second Saturday of the month starting on September 9 at 9:30 at the U of A Agricultural Center modular classroom on River Road.  Directions are on the website at the tapestry page.
Maddie Tsurusaki (that’s me) will chair the group this year.  I’m thinking about using Kathe Todd Hooker’s Line In Tapestry as the basis for our study this year.  There is plenty of material in that book from both a design and a technical standpoint to keep us really busy. Several of our members have it, and the library has a copy as well.  This is just an idea, and if you have a different yen, let us all know.
Deborah Corsini gave me directions for a simple frame loom, and I’m thinking it would be well for each member who is working through the activities in the book to have one.  We can talk about all of this at the first meeting.
I’d also like to take a field trip again.  A couple of years ago, one of the curators from the Arizona State Museum spoke to the general meeting about their basket collection.  She offered to do a personal tour of their back room for anyone interested because they have a state of the art facility.  The museum also has a new exhibit on basketry that is both jaw-dropping and inspirational.  I know it’s not exactly tapestry, but we may be able to talk about design and incorporating SW motifs in our tapestries as a result of our visit.
So welcome back. Let’s have a great year! If you have any questions, contact Maddie at msmarplescat
