Do you spin?  Have you ever wanted to grow your spinning skills to the point where you are recognized as a “Master Spinner?”  Well your time has come.  During 2011, you will have two opportunities here in Arizona to begin your journey to becoming a Master Spinner.

The Olds College Master Spinner Certificate Program consists of six progressive levels of classroom and independent study involving skill development, research studies and project assignments in the area of hand spinning of all major types of fibers, yarns and the end use of the spun yarns.  At all levels, students are evaluated on the basis of written assignments, practical projects, oral presentations and skill development.  This is a program that spinners talk about around the world.

Each level is taught once per year. Levels 1-4 consist of a five day (30 hours) workshop, while Levels 5 and 6 are seven days (42 hours) in length. Each level is followed by an independent home study portion for those students working towards certification.  Those individuals who successfully complete the assignments in all six levels will receive a Master Spinner Certificate from Olds College.

The class fee per level is $495, plus materials fee of $65. The class content for Level 1 will include selecting and preparing fibers, use of spinning equipment, spinning techniques, dyeing and general spinning knowledge. This is  a fabulous opportunity for spinners of all levels. This first level will cover the basics so beginners are most welcome. You may audit the class or do the homework and receive college credit and work toward the Master Spinner Certificate.

Here is the exciting part; in the past to participate in the Master Spinner Certification program you had to travel to Canada.  Now you have the opportunity to choose between taking the spinning sessions in Tempe or Tucson.
