Instructor Information: Marjolein is returning to Tucson for an encore felting workshop. Her first workshop was transformative for participants and many requested another opportunity to study with her. She is a dynamic teacher who invites students to explore the deeper meaning of the creative process as they work.
Marjolein was born in the Netherlands where she studied Fine Arts. She moved to Montréal, Canada, in 1989 to pursue her art career through making art books and jewelry. While raising a family, her creativity led her to toy making and teaching art classes. This led her to discover felting, and she now works in this medium.
The world-renowned CIRQUE DU SOLEIL became interested in Marjolein’s work, and for several years she experimented with felt for their costume design while also creating final products for their shows. Marjolein has her own company, Bloomfelt.com, and works from her studio with sewing, dyeing and felting. She has taught felting for fifteen years in North America, Europe, and Australia. She won three awards for her costumes made for the WOW (World Of Wearable Art) in New Zealand, and has had solo shows around the globe. Workshop Description: Basically, we’ll go where Marjolein decides to take us, but the intent of the workshop will be to create a wearable piece of art that incorporates the sculptural techniques Marjolein is famous for. Many have asked how she makes the flowing barnacles in her work so that is one thing we can explore with her. What I anticipate is a short meeting at the beginning of our three days in which we discuss the techniques we want to learn and from there we will let her guide us.

Materials and Supplies: Personal materials needed for wet felting. You will also need a “nice collection of different wools, roving or batts. Bring fine and coarse quality. If you have some, you can use wool locks. Please bring as many colors as possible so you can experiment. You will also need black, white, and different greys.” A fuller description of materials will be sent via email as the date gets closer.

Registration opens to THSG Members: Friday, September 1, 2017 Will post link to PayPal on that day.

Registration opens to Nonmembers: Sunday September 10, 2017
