wearable artHeidi Herboldsheimer, one of the educators at the Tucson Museum of Art, has contacted THSG Outreach about providing demonstrators at their June 11 “Picture This!” – a free monthly program with a different theme each month.  The theme of the June 11 program is WEARABLE ART!

The 11th is a Sunday and the event would run from Noon to 5PM, with set-up about 11 a.m. This is a family-oriented event though it is open to all ages.

We would be demonstrating sewing, weaving and other forms of wearable craft throughout the museum. For crafts that can’t be easily demonstrated in the museum, either because of logistics or potential harm to artwork (such as dyeing), we would have display tables of our work to show to visitors, staffed by THSG members to explain the techniques involved.

We would also offer hands-on experience where possible. Again, some of these may need to occur away from the artwork in the lobby.

I am looking for people interested in demonstrating/displaying and/or providing hands-on experience with the following:

Sewing

Felting

Surface Design

Dyeing

Card Weaving

Continuous Strand Weaving

Inkle Band Weaving

Rug Weaving

Of course, feel free to suggest a fiber art not listed here.  This will be an excellent opportunity to showcase the variety of fiber arts our member engage in!

If you are interested in participating, please email Outreach Chair Laura Wittman at mywitt20@aol.com.
