Exhibit Opening Celebration-Saturday, April 8, 2017

This new permanent exhibit will celebrate the region’s ancient and abiding fiber-weaving traditions by featuring millennia-old objects to modern-day masterpieces. Contemporary Native voices will enrich discussions of materials and technologies and bring to life the many functions basketry has served and continues to serve.

This exhibit is presented by OneAZ Credit Union. With more than 35,000 specimens, the ASM collection includes not only baskets, but sandals, mats, cradleboards, cordage, and other technologically similar items representative of every indigenous basket-making culture in North America, dating from 8,000 years ago to the present. It is the largest and most comprehensive collection of its kind in the world.
