saori-weavingSaori Weaving:  Saori, which is pronounced “sah or ee,” is usually translated as freestyle weaving, but the first syllable is also the first syllable of a Zen word meaning “everything has its own dignity.”  This class will introduce you to the principles and techniques of Saori, a Japanese approach to freestyle weaving with few rules and an embrace of the irregularities of nature. You only need a small rigid heddle loom, colorful yarn, and your own innate creativity (yes, you have some!). You need to have some experience with weaving on a loom but don’t  worry if your selvedges aren’t great or you sometimes make mistakes – in Saori it doesn’t matter.  Sat., Dec. 3, 1:00-4:00  Cost: $45 (does not include materials)
