Instructor Information: Cameron Taylor-Brown has immersed herself in the worlds of fiber, education and commerce since the 1970s. She studied fiber art at the University of California, Berkeley with artist Ed Rossbach and textile design at the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science. She worked in New York City as a stylist of upholstery and home furnishing fabrics, taught textile design at the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science and worked as an exhibition curator. Since 1985, Taylor-Brown has lived in Los Angeles where she maintains a studio and is active in several arts organizations. She was a founding board member of the Textile Group of Los Angeles and a past President of California Fibers and Designing Weavers. She recently founded ARTSgarage, a textile resource center in Los Angeles. Her artwork is widely exhibited and has been published in American Craft, Fiberarts, Shuttle, Spindle and Dyepot, Fiber Art Now and the Fiberarts Design Books Four, Five, Six and Seven. 

Workshop Description: Cameron will use photo images of her journeys to Bhutan, the Peruvian Highlands and Gujarat, India as a starting point for participants to consider, design and embellish a mixed media collage on cloth.  Students will examine traditional textiles from each country then create their own photo collage using translucent layering, stitching and yarns.  Students may use one of Cameron’s images or an image from one of their own journeys.  Your journey could be as far away as China or as close as your own backyard. 

Materials and Supplies: Supply list will be sent as workshop date approaches.  If students wish to use their own images, Cameron will need 2 high-resolution jpeg photographs at least 2 weeks prior to the workshop.  These will be printed onto cloth and brought to the workshop with Cameron. 

Registration opens to THSG Members: Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at the general meeting.  Online registrations begin after 2pm.

    Registrants receive full refund if WORKSHOP is cancelled by THSG. Cancelations received 14 days prior to REGISTRATION DEADLINE receive full tuition refund, less $10 cancelation fee. Cancellations received 8-13 days prior to REGISTRATION DEADLINE receive 50% refund. NO REFUNDS for cancelations received 7 days or less prior to REGISTRATION DEADLINE. Substitutes are accepted.
