Instructor Information: Sivia Harding has been interested fiber art since youth.  Over the years, she had dabbled in weaving, spinning, and dyeing (along with fine art and graphic design), but only learned how to knit in the year 2000.  Almost immediately, she began to design.  She is known mainly for her exceptional lace and bead designs, along with accessories, garments, and imaginative Moebius creations.  She has a reputation as an enthusiastic, warm instructor, and really enjoys the cross-pollination of ideas that happens in a class setting.  She feels she gets the better part of the bargain.  She has been widely published in books and collections, including Jared Flood’s Wool People series, online magazines such as Twist Collective and Knitty, and on Ravelry as Sivia Harding Knit Design.

Workshop Description: In this class, Sivia shares the magic of designing for this half-twisted, one-edged shape that truly has no inside or outside.  Participants learn the stitches that best interact with the structure, in which, amazingly, patterns appear to be mirror image and reversed on either side of the cast on round.  Which stitches will produce symmetry?  There are some guidelines, but also ways to bend the rules and produce stitch patterns, not all symmetrical, that are interesting and beautiful.  As students work a sampler cowl in worsted weight yarn, Sivia guarantees that students will have many “aha” moments as stitch patterns develop in amazing and sometimes unpredictable ways.  Many Moebius garments are shown as inspiration.

Materials and Supplies: Lists will be sent out as the workshop approaches.
