Level:  Very basic sewing machine skills required.  If you can thread your machine and sew a straight line, you’ll be in fine shape.  This is a great class for “sewing sissies.”
Maximum # of students: 13

Instructor Information: For 35 years, Trish has marketed and exhibited her line of clothing nationwide in fine specialty boutiques and galleries.  She teaches seminars and workshops on weaving-related subjects – especially clothing design – for guilds, shops and conferences.  Her work has consistently appeared in Convergence Fashion Shows, and she has acted as juror, consultant and mentor for several other fiber-related conferences.  She comes to THSG with strong recommendations from former students as an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and engaging instructor.

Workshop Description: In this workshop, students will learn clothing design for Handweavers using basic shapes with minimal cutting and sewing to create simply constructed clothing with a high fashion rather than ethnic look.  Emphasis will be placed on the creation of designs appropriate for the student’s particular figure type, life-style, and specific talents, as well as designing for her own loom width and having a perfect fit.  Designs will be adapted for your exact loom width.  Over a dozen of Trish’s original patterns will be shared and adjusted to your specific measurements. Each person will make a perfect fitting muslin that is the basis of unlimited additional garments and other muslins if time permits.

Students will investigate the use of color and fiber and how to choose them to most effectively achieve the desired concept.  You will explore multicolored and multi-fibered warps and wefts, draping qualities, finishing techniques, getting the most out of one warp, keeping records sources of supply, and much, much more.

The student will leave the workshop with a handful of personalized original patterns and muslins loom layouts, fiber and color choices, and the knowledge that you can execute them in a wonderful fabric designed to maximize your style and talent.

Materials and Supplies: You will need your sewing machine.  A detailed supply list will be sent before the start of the workshop.
