Mondays, May 12 – July 28, 2008
Pima County Beginning & Intermediate Weaving Classes:
9 a.m. – 12 noon, Session 3a - $24., session 3b - $80.
Lew Sorensen Tanque Verde Center, 11100 E. Tanque Verde Road. For beginner to intermediate weavers who want to get a good foundation in four-harness weaving; learn basic weaving techniques, winding warps, dressing the loom and weaving. After the initial learning phase, each student can choose his or her project. There are fibers available for student use in the classroom.

May 15 - Jun 14, 2008 -Prescott
Joanne Manginelli -“Earth & Fiber In Harmony” Reception: May 23, 6 pm to 8 pm: Integrating Pottery and Fiber. A portion of the profits go to our local Firehouse to purchase oxygen masks that firefighters use to resuscitate pets. Arts Prescott Cooperative Gallery, 234 S. May 17 - 24, 2008
The THSG Outreach exhibit opens May 17th at the Main Library Downtown. Weaving and Spinning demonstrations from 2 - 4 p.m. that day.. The exhibit remains open during library hours through May 24th. On May 24th there will be "Hands-On" weaving demonstrations for children from 2 - 3 p.m. If you can volunteer for either of these demos, contact Lois Smolinski.

 

Saturday, May 31, 2008
Dyeing with Natural Materials Workshop: hosted by the Bisbee Fiber Arts Guild from 9:30 a.m.- 4 p.m. Mordanting and using natural materials to dye protein (and maybe cotton) fibers included. Dyes will depend on what native plants are available at the time plus Brazilwood, logwood, madder and cochineal.
Register by May 10th.
Cost: $25 for Bisbee Guild Members, $30 for non-guild members. Materials: $10.

Flagstaff Wool Festival: Pioneer Museum, 2340 N. Fort Valley Rd, Flagstaff, Arizona. The festival features weaving, spinning, shearing, natural dyes and felting demonstrations. Other activities may include traditional cooking demonstrations and other crafts. For more information call (928) 774-6272.

 

August 1 - 3, 2008
Southwest Regional Spinners Retreat: Hold the date. There is a promise of a great line-up of classes. The retreat is held at a lovely church camp in Sacramento, New Mexico near Cloudcroft. There are several classes of general interest so non-spinners are welcome too. The camaraderie, scenery and market are all worth the price that includes classes, lodging and meals (usually around $200). Details will follow in future.
